[ in the background, there's the sounds of nature. rustling leaves, rushing water, chirping birds... and then there's a quiet chuckle from the owner of the journal. ]

This is quite the place. I've seen a lot in my time, but nothing like this. And that guide is handy! [ there's another small laugh ] Very thorough in its explaining this place. My thanks to its maintainer.

[ shanks pauses and there's the sounds of splashing. he's kicking his feet in the river. ]

If this place gets new arrivals in cycles, I imagine you get a number of these "I'm new here," journal entries. Aaah, well, that won't do. Let's spice things up and give you something more interesting than that!

Stop me if you've heard this one before... A Marine officer falls overboard during a battle with some pirates. He's a Devil Fruit user, so he can't swim and has to be rescued by a deckhand. When he's back aboard his ship, he thanks the deckhand and asks how he can best repay his underling for saving his life. The deckhand looks sheepish as he replies. "I think the best reward would be keeping it a secret, sir," he says, "If the other fellows knew I pulled you out, they might push me in!" Dahahahaha!

anyways, there's a long bit of silence as he scrambles up one, then: ] Looks like I'm little ways west of town. If you follow the river, I can meet you halfway.

[Go Shanks.] Ahh, great! I can meet up with you quickly. Gimme about ten minutes, okay?

[He'll keep his journal open while he runs out to meet you.] But damn, you probably don't remember, but you were here before. It's been months since I've seen you. Oh! Luffy's here, too! Bet he'll be pretty ecstatic to see you again. Wait til you see how he's grown.

Better hurry, or I might just find my way to the bar by myself.

[ he's just teasing. mostly. ]

Luffy's here? [ THIS IS CLEARLY THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL OF THAT even more so than the "you've been here before." ] Aah, it'll good to see him again.

[ and not see him being whisked away by a submarine. MAN THIS HAS JUST BEEN A SHITTY WEEK. ]

Oi, oi, I haven't had a drink with you in a long time. At least wait ten minutes.

[THIS IS LIKE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART FOR ANY PIRATE.] Some of his nakama are here, too. There's Zoro, Sanji, Nami, and Robin. But Luffy will probably want to introduce you to them himself. But you'll find company with Marco. Ah... Trafalgar Law's here, too. Same for Smoker.

[IT'S BEEN A SHITTY WEEK FOR ALL OF THEM.]

Anchor must like having his crew with him. [ as nakama make hard situations easier to deal with. ] And Marco must be enjoying having you around.

Helps the place feel like home. [He chuckles a little.] He sure as hell does. [By now, he's gotten a good ways into the forest alog the river.] I think I'm getting close. Give a shout for me, will you?

[Except you won't have to because Ace is shouting himself.] AAAAAAAH! You can meet Sabo now! Damn, is he gonna be happy to hear about this!

[ man, and here he was going to start singing sea shanties loudly and obnoxiously off-key :c ]

[You can do that when you're drunk. >:c] Yeah! He's mine and Luffy's brother from when we were on Dawn Island. He's wanted to meet you for a while.

[ shanks laughs, just a little startled. ] How many brothers do the two of you have?

Well, I've got 1600 from being on Pops' crew. Luffy's just got me and Sabo. [But stuff happened so Sabo wasn't really talked about much.]

So I've only got the one left that I haven't met yet. [ dramatic pause ] You don't have any long-lost sisters hanging around that are going to surprise me, do you?

Yeah. He should drop by to say hi fairly soon. [... hopefully.]

And unless Luffy's hiding something from me, no sisters.

Has he gotten any better at lying since the last time I saw him?

[Without any hesitation.] Not a damn bit.

Then I don't think we've got anything to worry about.

Nope. [ANYWAY yeah he sees you there by the river.] Ooooi! Shanks!

[Have a wave. And the sight of a burn scar on his chest.] Nice to see you again!

[ shanks grins, even as his eyes flicker briefly to the scar on ace's chest. that explains when ace was pulled here. ]

It's good to see you too, Ace. [ brace yourself, ace. he's going in for hair ruffles. ]

[Pshhhh, he lives with Marco. He does that on a regular basis, so Ace really doesn't do much besides smile.]

Ah, before I forget. [He bows to Shanks respectfully.] Thank you. For saving my family at Marineford, and for making my Pops' memorial. I'm very grateful to you.

[ the grin fades into a smaller, sadder smile. ]

You don't have to thank me, Ace. Really.

[Except he thinks he does because you're always saving his family.] It just... means a lot that no more were hurt because of my mist-- [Marco's gonna kick his as if he hears about this, so Ace stands up straight and points back to the village with a nervous smile.]

A-Anyway, wanna go to the bar? They've got some great drinks there.

[ he files that cut of remark away for future reference and puts his grin back on. ]
